Ketoconazole is an imidazole broad-spectrum antifungal drug. Its mechanism of action is to inhibit the biosynthesis of ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, affecting the permeability of cell membranes and inhibiting their growth. Ketoconazole can be used for the treatment of superficial and deep fungal diseases, such as skin and fingernail ringworm, gastrointestinal fungal infections, as well as systemic infections caused by Candida albicans and Histoplasma capsulatum.
